Visa & entry
Indian passport holders need an e-visa before travel. Apply online on the official ASAN Visa portal, evisa.gov.az. The standard e-visa costs about USD 25 and is issued in about 3 working days; an urgent option issued within about 3 hours costs more. It is a single-entry visa for a stay of up to 30 days. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from arrival, with two blank pages. Print the e-visa and carry it with your passport. Visitors staying more than 15 days must register with the State Migration Service, which hotels usually do for you.
Good to know
Baku is known as the 'city of winds'. Carry a light jacket even in spring and autumn, and warm layers from November to March.
The currency is the Azerbaijani manat (AZN). Cards work in hotels, malls and most restaurants; carry some cash for small shops, taxis and tips. Change money in Baku, not at the airport, for better rates.
Azerbaijani food is meat-heavy, but salads, vegetable qutab (stuffed flatbreads) and rice dishes are easy to find. Baku has several Indian restaurants with vegetarian and Jain options.
The Heydar Aliyev Center is usually closed on Mondays, so we plan that day around it.
Mosques in the Old City need modest clothing: covered shoulders and knees, and a headscarf for women.
Use Bolt or the hotel taxi for short trips; agree the fare first with street taxis.
Questions travellers ask
Is it easy to get a visa for Azerbaijan?
Yes. Indians apply online for an e-visa at evisa.gov.az, and the standard visa usually comes in about 3 working days. We can fill in the application for you if you send us a passport scan and photo.
Will we get vegetarian food in Baku?
Yes. Hotel breakfasts have bread, cheese, eggs, fruit and salads, and there are several Indian restaurants in central Baku serving North and South Indian vegetarian food.
Are flights included in the price?
No. The package starts and ends in Baku. There are direct flights from Delhi of about 4 hours, and we can book flights from Vijayawada or Hyderabad with a connection and send you a combined quote.
Is Baku suitable for elderly parents?
Mostly yes. The Old City walk is on stone lanes with some slopes, so go at a slow pace and wear good shoes. Highland Park can be reached by car or funicular, so there are no long climbs.
Can we see the mud volcanoes on this trip?
Gobustan and the mud volcanoes are an optional half-day trip on Day 4, at extra cost. If they are a must for you, look at our Land of Fire package, which includes them.
