Visa & entry
Indian passport holders need an e-visa before travel. Apply online on the official ASAN Visa portal, evisa.gov.az. The standard e-visa costs about USD 25 and is issued in about 3 working days; an urgent option issued within about 3 hours costs more. It is a single-entry visa for a stay of up to 30 days. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from arrival, with two blank pages. Print the e-visa and carry it with your passport. Visitors staying more than 15 days must register with the State Migration Service, which hotels usually do for you.
Good to know
Gabala, Sheki and Quba are cooler than Baku. Carry a warm layer even in summer, and proper winter clothing from December to March.
Days 3, 5 and 6 involve 4–6 hours of driving on good highways and some winding hill roads. Carry motion-sickness tablets if anyone needs them.
Outside Baku there are no Indian restaurants. Vegetarian choices are bread, cheese, salads, vegetable qutab, rice and eggs; tell us in advance and we will ask the hotels to prepare vegetarian dinners.
No photos are allowed inside the Sheki Khan's Palace.
The currency is the Azerbaijani manat (AZN). Cards work in Baku; carry cash for the regions, where small shops and cafés may not accept cards.
Mosques need modest clothing: covered shoulders and knees, and a headscarf for women.
Questions travellers ask
How much driving is there on this trip?
About 3.5–4 hours on Day 3, 1.5 hours on Day 4, about 5 hours on Day 5 and 5–6 hours on the Quba day trip, all with stops. The car is private with a driver, so you can stop when you need to.
Will there be snow?
Gabala and the mountains near Quba usually get snow from December to March. Baku itself rarely has snow. Hill roads stay open, but some lake and waterfall walks may be icy.
Is vegetarian food available outside Baku?
Yes, though choices are simpler: salads, cheese, bread, rice and vegetable dishes. Tell us when booking and we will request vegetarian meals from each hotel.
Is this trip good for elderly parents?
Yes, at a gentle pace. Most sights are close to the road. The Old City lanes and the walk to the Seven Beauties waterfall have some slopes, which can be skipped.
Do we need a visa?
Yes, an Azerbaijan e-visa, applied for online. It usually takes about 3 working days, and we can apply for you.
