Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Luxor · Board the cruise · Karnak and Luxor temples — Fly into Luxor, usually via Cairo (flights quoted separately). Our representative meets you at Luxor airport and drives you to the cruise ship, about 20 minutes; cabins are normally ready from midday. In the afternoon, your Egyptologist guide takes you to Karnak Temple, a vast complex built over about 2,000 years, with the Great Hypostyle Hall of 134 giant columns and the Sacred Lake, then along…
Valley of the Kings · Temple of Hatshepsut · Sail south — Cross to the West Bank early to beat the heat. Visit the Valley of the Kings (the standard ticket covers 3 tombs; Tutankhamun's and Seti I's tombs cost extra), the terraced Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. Optional at extra cost before this: a sunrise hot-air balloon flight over the West Bank. Back on board by midday, the ship sails south through the Esna lock towards Edfu, with…
Edfu Temple of Horus · Kom Ombo Temple — In the morning, ride a horse carriage from the riverbank to the Temple of Horus at Edfu, one of the most complete temples in Egypt (carriage tip extra). The ship then sails on to Kom Ombo, where you visit the riverside double temple dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god, and Haroeris, along with the small Crocodile Museum, ideally around sunset. The ship continues to Aswan. Meals on board; most…
Aswan · Philae Temple and High Dam · Optional Abu Simbel — If you add the Abu Simbel trip (optional, quoted separately), you leave the ship at about 4:00 am for the 3.5–4 hour drive south to the two rock temples of Ramses II and Nefertari, returning to Aswan around 1:00–2:00 pm; a short flight is also possible. Your guide then takes you to the Aswan High Dam and by motorboat to Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis and moved stone by stone to its…
Disembark in Aswan · Fly home via Cairo — Breakfast on board and disembark, usually by 8:00–9:00 am. Transfer to Aswan airport for your flight to Cairo, about 1 hour 20 minutes, to connect with your international flight home (flights quoted separately; please allow at least 3 hours in Cairo between flights). Visa & entry
Indian passport holders need a visa for Egypt. Most apply for the Egypt e-visa online before travel (about USD 30 for single entry; apply at least a week ahead). Indians holding a valid, already used US, UK, Schengen, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand or Japanese visa can usually get a visa on arrival instead (about USD 30). Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date. If you connect through Cairo, you enter Egypt there.
Good to know
Cruise ships sail from Luxor on fixed days of the week, so your travel dates are planned around the ship's departure day.
Abu Simbel is about 280 km south of Aswan. By road it means a 4:00 am start and 7–8 hours of driving in total; the short flight costs more but saves time, and is easier for seniors.
Tipping is customary on Nile cruises: a shared tip for the crew is usually collected at the end, plus separate tips for your guide. Carry small notes in Egyptian pounds or US dollars.
Cruise buffets always have vegetarian dishes; tell us in advance about Jain or no onion-garlic food so we can inform the ship.
Pack light cotton clothes that cover shoulders and knees for temple visits, a hat, sunscreen, and a light jacket for evenings on deck from December to February.
Drones are banned in Egypt, and some tombs restrict photography or charge extra for cameras.
Questions travellers ask
Is Abu Simbel included?
No, it is an optional add-on on Day 4, by road or by a short flight from Aswan, and we quote it separately. Most guests who come this far find it worth adding.
Does the package include the Pyramids?
No, this package is the Nile cruise only. You can add 2 or 3 nights in Cairo before or after the cruise for the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, or choose our Egypt Pyramids & Nile package.
What is a 5-star Nile cruise ship like?
A river ship of about 50–80 cabins, each with a window or balcony on the river, an en-suite bathroom and air conditioning. There is a sun deck with a pool, a restaurant serving buffet meals and a lounge.
Is it suitable for elderly parents?
Yes, the cruise suits seniors well, as you unpack once and the ship moves while you rest. Temple visits involve some walking on uneven ground, and the guide can adjust the pace.
Do Indians need a visa for Egypt?
Yes. Most Indian travellers apply for the Egypt e-visa online before travel. If you hold a valid, used US, UK or Schengen visa, you can usually get a visa on arrival instead.
