Visa & entry
Indian passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa for this trip; it covers the Netherlands, France, Switzerland and Italy. Apply through VFS Global up to 6 months and at least 3–4 weeks before travel; summer appointments fill early. The visa fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6–11 (children under 6 are free), plus the VFS service charge. You will need confirmed flights and hotels, travel insurance with at least €30,000 medical cover, recent bank statements and income tax returns. Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area, have two blank pages and be less than 10 years old. Since April 2026 the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is fully in use at all Schengen borders: on your first entry, fingerprints and a face photo are taken at passport control instead of a stamp (children under 12 give only a photo). ETIAS, the new online travel permit, is only for visa-free nationalities, so it does not apply to Indian visitors with a Schengen visa; its launch has in any case moved to 2027.
Good to know
Euro (€) is used in the Netherlands, France and Italy; Switzerland uses the Swiss franc (CHF), though euros are accepted in many shops at a poor rate. Cards are accepted almost everywhere; carry a little cash for small cafés and toilets.
Expect to walk 10,000–15,000 steps on city tour days. Comfortable shoes and a light rain jacket are essential in every season.
Jungfraujoch is at 3,454 m and is cold even in summer (often below 0°C). Carry a warm jacket, sunglasses and sunscreen. People with heart or breathing problems should ask their doctor first.
Pickpockets work around the Eiffel Tower, Paris Metro, Trevi Fountain and Rome Termini. Keep passports in the hotel safe and carry a photocopy.
Indian restaurants, including vegetarian and South Indian options, are easy to find in Amsterdam, Paris (Gare du Nord area), Interlaken and Rome. Most dinners on this tour can be arranged as Indian meals.
Plugs are the European two-pin type; Switzerland uses its own three-pin type (J), so carry a universal adapter.
Questions travellers ask
Which embassy do we apply to for the Schengen visa?
You apply to the country where you spend the most nights. On this trip Paris, Interlaken and Rome have 3 nights each, so we will tell you which embassy to use based on your final hotel plan and arrival point. One Schengen visa covers all four countries.
Are flights included?
No. The price covers the land package. International flights (into Amsterdam, out of Rome), the Zurich–Rome flight and the Amsterdam–Paris and Paris–Interlaken trains are quoted separately. We can book them together and give you one combined quote.
Will we get Indian vegetarian food?
Hotel breakfasts have bread, cereals, fruit, cheese and eggs. Dinners can be arranged at Indian restaurants with vegetarian dishes. Jain food is possible with advance notice.
Is this tour suitable for senior citizens?
Yes, for seniors who can walk 2–3 hours at a time with breaks. There are train changes with luggage, so we suggest one medium suitcase per person. The Jungfraujoch altitude can affect people with heart or breathing conditions.
How much money should we carry?
Plan for about €30–40 per person per day for lunches, water and snacks, plus any optional tours. Carry a forex card in euros and some Swiss francs. Under Indian rules, you can carry foreign currency notes worth up to USD 3,000; the rest should be on a forex card.
