Visa & entry
Indian passport holders need a visa for Japan. Applications are submitted through VFS Global, without an appointment, from 3 months before the travel date; eligible short-term visas are issued as an eVISA under the system Japan launched in India in April 2024. From 1 July 2026 the visa fee for Indian nationals is ₹500 for a single or multiple-entry visa, plus the VFS service charge. Processing times vary and cannot be expedited, so apply 4–6 weeks before travel with your confirmed itinerary and hotel bookings. Your passport must be valid for the whole stay. Japan's international tourist tax rose to ¥3,000 from 1 July 2026; it is collected in your airline ticket.
Good to know
Cherry blossoms last about a week at full bloom, and rain or wind can shorten this. Bloom dates move by a week or more each year, so we confirm departure dates after the official forecasts are published, usually from January.
Spring days are about 10–18 °C, with cold mornings and evenings, especially at Lake Kawaguchiko. Pack layers and comfortable walking shoes; most days involve 10,000–15,000 steps.
Vegetarian food needs planning in Japan, as many dishes use fish stock (dashi). Indian and vegetarian restaurants are available in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, and we inform the ryokan of vegetarian requests in advance.
Large suitcases on the Shinkansen need a reserved seat with an oversized-baggage area (bags over 160 cm in total dimensions). Luggage forwarding between hotels is easier and costs roughly ¥2,000–3,000 per bag.
At the ryokan, hot-spring baths are shared and separated by gender, and bathing is without swimwear. Private baths are available at some ryokans at extra cost.
Cash is still useful in Japan. Carry some yen, and load an IC card such as Suica or ICOCA for metro and bus rides.
Questions travellers ask
Can you guarantee the cherry blossoms?
No one can, as nature decides the dates. We time the trip for the usual peak in Tokyo and Kyoto and fix dates after the official forecasts. Even a few days early or late, you usually see trees in bloom somewhere on the route.
Is vegetarian food available in Japan?
Yes, with planning. Dinners are arranged with vegetarian options, including some Indian restaurants, and the ryokan prepares a vegetarian set if we tell them in advance. Lunches are on your own, and we share a list of vegetarian-friendly places.
Is this trip suitable for seniors?
Yes for active seniors who can walk 3–5 km a day and manage some stairs. The Chureito Pagoda has about 400 steps, but you can see Mt Fuji from the lakeshore instead.
Are flights included?
No. The trip arrives in Tokyo and departs from Osaka (Kansai). We can quote flights separately, and we can reverse the route if your fares are better that way.
How do I get a Japan visa?
Apply through VFS Global with your passport, photo, bank statements, ITRs and our itinerary and hotel confirmations. The fee for Indians is ₹500 plus the VFS charge. We help prepare the documents.
