Take the Narita Express (about 60–90 minutes to Tokyo or Shinjuku) or, from Haneda, the Tokyo Monorail and JR lines (about 30–45 minutes), both covered by the pass, then walk or take a short taxi to your hotel. We send you clear step-by-step directions before you…

After leaving your bags at the hotel, take the JR Nara line (about 5 minutes) to Fushimi Inari Taisha and walk up through the tunnels of orange torii gates; the lower loop takes about 1 hour. In the evening,…
  4. Guided Kyoto temple tour — A guided temple day by city bus and on foot. Begin at Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion reflected in its pond. Then visit Sanjusangen-do, a long wooden hall holding 1,001 statues of the goddess Kannon, guarded by deities whose origins go back to Hindu gods such as Garuda and Indra. In the afternoon, walk up to Kiyomizu-dera, the hillside temple with its wooden stage, and down the old lanes of…
  5. Nara day trip · Arashiyama in the afternoon — A self-guided day using your JR Pass. Take the JR Nara line to Nara (about 45 minutes) and walk through Nara Park, where hundreds of tame deer roam freely, to Todai-ji, whose great wooden hall houses a 15-metre bronze Buddha. Visa & entry

Indian passport holders need a visa for Japan. Applications are submitted through VFS Global, without an appointment, from 3 months before the travel date; eligible short-term visas are issued as an eVISA under the system Japan launched in India in April 2024. From 1 July 2026 the visa fee for Indian nationals is ₹500 for a single or multiple-entry visa, plus the VFS service charge. Processing times vary and cannot be expedited, so apply 4–6 weeks before travel with your confirmed itinerary and hotel bookings. Your passport must be valid for the whole stay. Japan's international tourist tax rose to ¥3,000 from 1 July 2026; it is collected in your airline ticket.

Good to know

Questions travellers ask

Is the JR Pass worth it on such a short trip?

It covers the airport trains at both ends, the bullet train to Kyoto and the JR lines to Fushimi Inari, Nara and Arashiyama, and it saves you buying tickets for each journey. Metro and city buses are not covered.

Will someone guide us on the train days?

The Tokyo day and the Kyoto temple day are guided. On travel days you use the trains yourself, with step-by-step directions from us. Japanese stations have English signs.

Is vegetarian food available?

Yes, with planning. Dinners are arranged with vegetarian options, including Indian restaurants. For lunch we share a list of vegetarian-friendly places near each sight.

Are flights included?

No. The trip arrives in Tokyo and departs from Osaka Kansai. We can quote flights separately, or change the route to start and end in Tokyo.

How do I get a Japan visa?

Apply through VFS Global with your passport, photo, bank statements, ITRs and our itinerary and hotel confirmations. The fee for Indians is ₹500 plus the VFS charge. We help prepare the documents.
