Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Amman — Our representative meets you at Queen Alia International Airport after immigration, where you get your visa on arrival or show your Jordan Pass, and drives you to your Amman hotel, about 45 minutes. A welcome drink is served on arrival. Check-in is usually from 2:00–3:00 pm. If you arrive early, you can walk along Rainbow Street or visit the Citadel hill on your own for views over the city.
Amman to Petra · Guided afternoon in Petra — Check out after breakfast and drive south on the Desert Highway to Wadi Musa, the town at Petra's gate, about 3–3.5 hours. After checking in, a local guide takes you into Petra for about 2 hours: through the Siq, a narrow 1.2 km gorge, to the Treasury, then past the Street of Facades to the Theatre. You can stay on after the guided walk to see the Royal Tombs or, if you are fit, climb about 800…
Little Petra · Wadi Rum jeep safari and sunset — After breakfast, a short stop at Little Petra (Siq al-Barid, free entry), a small canyon with Nabataean carvings, then drive about 1.5–2 hours to Wadi Rum and check in to your desert camp. In the afternoon, a Bedouin driver takes you on a jeep safari of about 3 hours: Lawrence's Spring, the Khazali Canyon rock carvings, the red sand dunes, the Little Bridge rock arch and Mushroom Rock, ending…
A slow day in the Wadi Rum desert — A free day at the camp to enjoy the desert at your own pace. Optional at extra cost, booked through the camp: a sunrise hot-air balloon flight (seasonal and weather-dependent, about 1 hour in the air), a camel ride of 1–2 hours to the dunes, or a guided climb to the Burdah or Um Fruth rock bridges for fit walkers. Afternoons are good for resting in the shade and photographing the changing…
Wadi Rum to Amman airport · Departure — After breakfast at camp, drive north to Queen Alia International Airport, about 3.5–4 hours on the Desert Highway, with a rest stop on the way. Visa & entry
Indian passport holders can get a single-entry tourist visa on arrival at Queen Alia International Airport, Amman, for JOD 40 (about ₹4,700), or apply for a Jordan e-visa before travel. If you buy a Jordan Pass online before you fly and stay in Jordan at least 3 nights, the visa fee is waived; the pass also covers Petra and Wadi Rum entry. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months, and immigration may ask to see your return ticket, hotel bookings and proof of funds.
Good to know
Buy a Jordan Pass (from JOD 70 at jordanpass.jo) before travel: on this 4-night trip it waives the JOD 40 visa fee and covers Petra (JOD 50 on its own) and Wadi Rum entry.
Desert nights are cold from November to March, often below 5°C, and cool even in spring and autumn. Bring a warm jacket, a cap and closed shoes; days are sunny, so pack sunscreen and sunglasses too.
Wadi Rum camps have limited mobile signal and Wi-Fi, and power for charging may be available only at set times. Carry a power bank.
Stargazing is best around the new moon, when the sky is darkest; ask us for the moon dates for your travel week.
The jeep safari is bumpy on sand tracks. It is not advised for pregnant women or people with back problems; tell us in advance and we will suggest a gentler route.
The currency is the Jordanian dinar (JOD), worth about ₹118. Carry cash for the camp, optional activities and tips.
Questions travellers ask
What is the desert camp like?
Wadi Rum camps have private tents with beds, linen and attached bathrooms with hot water. Bubble tents with a clear roof for stargazing cost more. Dinner is served in a common Bedouin-style dining tent.
Is vegetarian food available at the camp?
Yes, if requested in advance. Camps cook rice, vegetables, lentil soup, hummus and salads, and the zarb can be made with vegetables only.
Is the Petra ticket included?
No. We recommend a Jordan Pass, bought online before travel, which covers Petra and Wadi Rum entry and also waives the visa fee on this trip. We can help you buy it.
Is this trip suitable for seniors or children?
Yes for active seniors and children over about 6. Petra involves 8–10 km of walking, and the jeep ride is bumpy, but there is plenty of rest time at camp.
Can we see the stars clearly?
Yes, Wadi Rum has very little light pollution, and on clear nights you can see the Milky Way. Skies are darkest around the new moon, so tell us if stargazing is your main reason for going.
