Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Kathmandu · Trek briefing — Our representative meets you at Tribhuvan International Airport and drives you to your hotel. In the afternoon, your trekking guide meets you for a briefing and a gear check; anything missing, such as a down jacket or trekking poles, can be hired or bought cheaply in Thamel. If time allows, visit Swayambhunath for a view over the city.
Kathmandu to Pokhara · Evening by Phewa Lake — After an early breakfast, drive about 200 km to Pokhara (6–7 hours along the Trishuli and Marsyangdi valleys; road works can add time). The 25-minute flight is an option at extra cost. Check in at Lakeside and walk along Phewa Lake in the evening. Pack a small bag for the trek; the rest of your luggage stays at the Pokhara hotel.
Drive to Tikhedhunga · Trek to Ulleri (2,070 m) — Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul (about 1.5 hours), where your permits are checked, and continue by local jeep up the valley to Tikhedhunga (about 1 hour). From there, cross the river and climb the famous stone staircase, more than 3,000 steps, to the Magar village of Ulleri (about 2.5–3 hours). It is a steep start, so go slowly and take breaks. Evening views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli from…
Ulleri to Ghorepani (2,860 m) — A steady climb of about 4–5 hours, first through farmland and then into dense forest of oak and rhododendron, past streams and small waterfalls at Banthanti and Nangethanti. Ghorepani is a busy village on a ridge with views of Dhaulagiri. Afternoons can be cold and misty, so change into warm clothes on arrival and sleep early for tomorrow's sunrise.
Poon Hill sunrise (3,210 m) · Trek to Tadapani (2,630 m) — Start at about 4:45 am with a torch and climb about 45 minutes to 1 hour to Poon Hill for sunrise over more than 20 peaks, including Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre. Return to Ghorepani for breakfast. Then walk about 5–6 hours east along the ridge to Deurali Pass (about 3,100 m) and down through rhododendron forest, which blooms red and pink in March–April, to Tadapani.…
Tadapani to Ghandruk (1,940 m) — Wake up to close views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre from Tadapani. A shorter, mostly downhill walk of about 3 hours through forest brings you to Ghandruk, one of the largest Gurung villages in Nepal. In the afternoon, explore its stone-paved lanes, the Gurung museum and the monastery, and if you wish, try on traditional Gurung dress for photos.
Ghandruk to Pokhara by jeep — After breakfast, take a local jeep down the winding road from Ghandruk to Nayapul and on to Pokhara (about 3 hours in total). Check back into your Pokhara hotel, collect your luggage and enjoy a hot shower. The afternoon is free to rest; a massage at Lakeside is a popular way to ease tired legs (at your own cost).
Pokhara sightseeing · Phewa Lake boat ride — A relaxed sightseeing day. Visit Bindhyabasini Temple, Davis Falls and the Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave with its Shiva lingam beside an underground waterfall, and the International Mountain Museum if you are interested in Himalayan history. In the afternoon, take a rowing boat on Phewa Lake to the island temple of Tal Barahi. Optional at extra cost: paragliding from Sarangkot or an early-morning…
Pokhara to Kathmandu · Pashupatinath and Boudhanath — Drive back to Kathmandu after breakfast (6–7 hours), or take the optional 25-minute flight at extra cost to have the afternoon free. In the late afternoon, visit Boudhanath Stupa and Pashupatinath Temple, where the evening aarti on the Bagmati riverbank starts around 6 pm. Only Hindus may enter the main temple courtyard.
Departure from Kathmandu — Breakfast and check-out. Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport, about 20–30 minutes away, reaching 3 hours before your international flight.

Aadhaar and PAN cards are not accepted as travel documents for adults. For the trekking permits, carry your original ID, a photocopy and two passport-size photos. Good to know
This trek is moderate: 3–6 hours of walking a day, with long stone staircases up and down. Prepare with regular walks and stair climbing for 4–6 weeks before the trip.
The highest point is Poon Hill at 3,210 m. Serious altitude sickness is uncommon at this height, but walk slowly, drink plenty of water and tell your guide about headaches or dizziness.
Nights at Ghorepani and Tadapani are cold (often around 0°C from December to February). Carry a warm jacket, a fleece, a woollen cap, gloves and a sleeping-bag liner; teahouses provide blankets.
Carry a small backpack of about 6–8 kg, or add a porter. Leave the rest of your luggage at the Pokhara hotel.
Vegetarian food is easy on this trek: dal-bhat, noodles, potatoes, pasta and Gurung bread are on every menu.
Indian rupees are widely accepted in Nepal. ₹200 and ₹500 notes issued after November 2016 are allowed up to ₹25,000 per person. Carry cash for the trek; there are no ATMs after Nayapul.
Questions travellers ask
Is this the Annapurna Circuit?
No. This is the Ghorepani–Poon Hill trek, a short, lower-altitude trek in the Annapurna foothills. The full Annapurna Circuit takes 12–18 days and crosses the Thorong La pass at 5,416 m.
Can a first-time trekker do this?
Yes, if you are reasonably fit and can walk 5–6 hours with breaks. The first climb to Ulleri is the hardest part. No climbing skills are needed.
Is it suitable for children or older parents?
Active teenagers usually manage well. For older travellers, it depends on knee strength and fitness, because of the long stone staircases; please consult your doctor. Non-trekking family members can stay in Pokhara.
Are permits and porters included?
Not in the base price. Trekking permits (ACAP, and TIMS where required) and porters can be added; we arrange them before the trek and tell you the exact cost when you book.
Will there be phone signal and electricity?
Most villages on this route have mobile signal and electricity, and teahouses offer Wi-Fi and phone charging for a small fee. Carry a power bank.
