Arrive Bagdogra / NJP · Drive to Gangtok — Our driver meets you at Bagdogra airport or New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station and drives you about 125 km to Gangtok along the Teesta river on NH10 (4.5–5.5 hours, longer if there are landslide repairs). Indian citizens do not need a permit to enter Sikkim, but please hand over ID copies and two passport photos per person today for the Tsomgo/Nathu La permit. Check in and spend the evening on…
Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir · Optional Nathu La — Leave by 7 am after breakfast with your Protected Area Permit and drive about 40 km to Tsomgo (Changu) Lake at about 3,750 m (2–2.5 hours), then on to Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir. If you have chosen the Nathu La extension (Indian nationals only, extra cost, open Wednesday to Sunday), continue to the border pass at about 4,300 m. Return to Gangtok by mid-afternoon. Gangtok sightseeing · Monasteries, viewpoints and ropeway — After breakfast, see Gangtok with your driver: Enchey Monastery, Do Drul Chorten, the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, the Flower Exhibition Centre, Banjhakri Falls and the Tashi viewpoint, from where Kanchenjunga is visible on clear mornings. The Gangtok ropeway is optional and paid locally. If you want to see Rumtek Monastery (about 24 km away), we can include it instead of some of the town…
Gangtok to Pelling via Ravangla Buddha Park — After breakfast, drive west about 125 km to Pelling (5–6 hours on hill roads), stopping at the Buddha Park in Ravangla, with its 40 m statue of the Buddha (entry paid locally). Lunch is on the way at your own cost. Arrive in Pelling by late afternoon; on a clear evening, the Kanchenjunga range is right in front of the town.
Pemayangtse, Rabdentse, Pelling Skywalk · Drive to Darjeeling — Start early after breakfast with Pemayangtse Monastery, one of Sikkim's oldest, then walk through the forest to the ruins of Rabdentse, Sikkim's second capital. Visit the glass Skywalk and the Chenrezig statue (entry paid locally). Around midday, drive about 75 km to Darjeeling via Jorethang (4–4.5 hours), arriving by evening.
Tiger Hill sunrise · Ghoom, Batasia Loop, HMI and tea estate — Leave at about 4 am for Tiger Hill (11 km) to watch the sunrise light up Kanchenjunga; the viewing gallery charges a small fee. After breakfast at the hotel, visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park (both closed on Thursdays), and a tea…

Good to know
Nathu La is open to Indian nationals only, and is closed to tourists on Mondays and Tuesdays. Permits are issued in Gangtok the day before, for one date only, and can be cancelled at short notice because of snow or Army orders. Foreign nationals, including OCI cardholders, cannot visit.
Tsomgo is at about 3,750 m and Nathu La at about 4,300 m. Walk slowly, avoid alcohol, and tell us about heart, blood pressure or breathing problems. Very young children and infants are better not taken to Nathu La.
NH10, the main road from Siliguri to Gangtok, is often under repair after landslides, especially from June to September. Drive times can change, and we may use an alternative route.
Pack warm layers in every season: Gangtok and Darjeeling are 5–15°C in winter, and Tsomgo can be below freezing. A raincoat is useful from May to September.
Vegetarian food, including South Indian dishes, is easy to find in Gangtok and Darjeeling. Options are simpler in Pelling. Tell us if you need Jain food.
Sikkim has strict rules against plastic and littering, with fines in some areas. Carry a reusable water bottle.
Questions travellers ask
Is Nathu La included?
No. Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir are included. Nathu La is an extension at extra cost because it needs a separate permit and vehicle charge, is open only Wednesday to Sunday and only for Indian nationals, and can close at short notice.
Will we see snow?
Usually at Tsomgo and Nathu La from about December to April. In October–November you may see snow on the peaks but not at the lake. Heavy snow can close the road altogether in January–February.
Is this trip suitable for senior citizens?
Yes, for those in reasonable health. The hill drives are long and winding, and Tsomgo is at high altitude, so please consult your doctor if you have heart or breathing problems. The rest of the sightseeing involves only short walks.
Can we ride the Darjeeling toy train?
Yes, as an option. The joyride from Darjeeling to Ghoom and back takes about 2 hours, with a stop at Batasia Loop. Seats are limited, so tell us early so we can book.
Does the price include flights?
No. The trip starts and ends at Bagdogra airport or NJP station. We can book flights from Vijayawada or Hyderabad to Bagdogra and send a quote with and without flights.
