Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Jodhpur · Mehrangarh Fort and Jaswant Thada — Our driver meets you at Jodhpur airport or railway station and takes you to the hotel. In the afternoon, visit Mehrangarh Fort, which rises above the blue houses of the old city, and the white marble Jaswant Thada memorial below it. The fort closes at about 5 pm, so please plan to arrive by 1 pm. End the day at the clock tower and Sardar Market.
Jodhpur to Jaisalmer · Gadisar Lake at sunset — After breakfast, drive about 285 km to Jaisalmer across the Thar desert (5–5.5 hours), with a lunch stop on the way at your own cost. Check in at your hotel, then walk along Gadisar Lake in the evening, when the sandstone gateways and chhatris glow in the setting sun.
Jaisalmer Fort, Patwon ki Haveli and Bada Bagh — In the morning, walk through Jaisalmer Fort: the palace, the Jain temples and the narrow lanes where about a quarter of the old city's people still live. Then visit Patwon ki Haveli, five carved sandstone mansions built by a merchant family. Late in the afternoon, drive about 6 km to Bada Bagh to see the royal cenotaphs at sunset. The rest of the time is free for the markets below the fort,…
Kuldhara village · Camel safari and desert camp at Sam — After breakfast, check out and take the morning at leisure in Jaisalmer. In the early afternoon, drive about 18 km to Kuldhara, a village abandoned about 200 years ago, and continue about 25 km to the Sam dunes. Check in at the desert camp, then ride camels out onto the dunes to watch the sunset. In the evening, the camp hosts Rajasthani folk music and Kalbelia dance around a bonfire. Dinner is…
Sunrise on the dunes · Drive back to Jodhpur — Wake early to watch the sunrise over the dunes, then have breakfast at the camp. Drive about 330 km back to Jodhpur (6–6.5 hours), with a lunch stop on the way at your own cost. The evening is free; the stepwell at Toorji ka Jhalra and the cafés around the clock tower are a short walk from most hotels.
Umaid Bhawan Palace museum · Departure from Jodhpur — After breakfast and check-out, visit the museum wing of Umaid Bhawan Palace if your departure time allows (it opens at about 9 am; entry paid separately). Our driver then drops you at Jodhpur airport or railway station.

Good to know
Desert nights are cold from November to February (often 5–8°C, sometimes lower). Pack a warm jacket, cap and socks for the camp night, and sunscreen and sunglasses for the day.
Camel rides are gentle but bumpy. Tell us in advance about back problems, pregnancy or very young children so we can arrange a camel cart or jeep instead.
Desert camps have electricity in the evenings and attached bathrooms, but hot water and mobile signal can be limited. Keep a power bank charged.
Remove footwear and leather items at the Jain temples in Jaisalmer Fort, and dress modestly at all temples.
Pure vegetarian food is easy to find in Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, and camp dinners are usually a vegetarian Rajasthani buffet.
Carry cash for camel tips, small shops and activities at Sam; ATMs are only in Jaisalmer town.
Questions travellers ask
Is the camel safari included?
Yes. A sunset camel ride on the Sam dunes is included. Dune jeep safaris, quad bikes and other activities are optional and paid on the spot.
Is the desert camp safe and comfortable for families?
Yes. The camps are fenced, staffed and run by registered operators. Tents have proper beds and attached bathrooms. Children enjoy the camel ride and the evening show.
Will we get vegetarian food?
Yes. Rajasthan is very easy for vegetarians, and camp dinners are usually vegetarian. Tell us if you need Jain or no-onion-garlic food.
Can we visit the Indo-Pak border or Longewala war memorial?
Longewala and the Tanot Mata temple are about 120–150 km from Jaisalmer and are not part of this package. We can add a day trip at extra cost; the area beyond Tanot needs Army permission.
Does the price include flights?
No. The package starts and ends in Jodhpur. We can book flights or trains from Vijayawada or Hyderabad and send a quote with and without them.
