Arrive Moscow · Evening at Red Square — Our representative meets you at the Moscow airport after immigration and drives you to your hotel, about 1–1.5 hours. Show your printed e-visa and insurance at immigration. After rest, take an evening walk to Red Square and the Zaryadye Park floating bridge, both lit up after dark. Keep the migration registration slip the hotel gives you; you will need it later in the trip.
Moscow city tour · Kremlin and the Metro — After breakfast, a guided tour of about 5–6 hours: Red Square, St. Basil's Cathedral from outside, the GUM arcade, and the Kremlin grounds with Cathedral Square, the Tsar Bell and the Tsar Cannon (the Kremlin is closed on Thursdays). In the afternoon, a guided ride through the grand Metro stations, such as Komsomolskaya and Ploshchad Revolyutsii. Lunch is on your own. In the evening, buy snacks,…
Old Arbat · Board the Rossiya train at night — After breakfast and check-out, spend the morning on Old Arbat street and at the Sparrow Hills viewpoint; the hotel keeps your luggage until the evening. After dinner, transfer to Yaroslavsky station and board the Rossiya train to Irkutsk, about 3.5 days and 5,150 km. You share a 4-berth second-class compartment with bedding provided; each carriage has an attendant (provodnitsa), toilets and a…
On the train · Across the Volga to the Urals — Wake up to forests and villages as the train heads east past Kirov towards Perm and the Ural mountains. Meals today are in the restaurant car or from your own supplies. The train stops for 15–30 minutes at larger stations, where you can step onto the platform and buy pastries, fruit or smoked fish from kiosks; always check the departure time with the attendant before getting off. Clocks move…
On the train · Yekaterinburg and the Siberian plains — In the early hours the train crosses the Urals, the border between Europe and Asia, and stops at Yekaterinburg. Through the day it crosses the flat West Siberian plain via Tyumen and Omsk, with long stretches of birch forest and wetlands. Spend the day reading, playing cards, chatting with fellow passengers and watching the view; there is no Wi-Fi and mobile signal comes and goes.
On the train · Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk — The train crosses the wide Ob river into Novosibirsk, Siberia's largest city, and continues east through more hilly, forested country towards Krasnoyarsk on the Yenisei river. This is the last full day of the first leg. Get your bags ready in the evening, as the train reaches Irkutsk the next morning.
Arrive Irkutsk · Drive to Lake Baikal — The train arrives in Irkutsk, 5 hours ahead of Moscow time. Our representative meets you at the station and drives you about 70 km (1–1.5 hours) to Listvyanka on the shore of Lake Baikal, stopping at the Taltsy wooden architecture museum on the way. After check-in, visit the Baikal Museum to learn about the lake and its nerpa seals, and walk along the lakeside fish market, where smoked omul is…

Drive back to Irkutsk for a short city walk through the 130th Quarter of restored wooden houses and along the Angara river. In the evening, board the Rossiya train to Vladivostok, about 3…
On the train · Ulan-Ude and Buryatia — Depending on the departure time, the line runs along the southern shore of Lake Baikal before reaching Ulan-Ude, capital of the Buddhist Buryat region, where the main Trans-Siberian line turns east. The landscape becomes open steppe and rolling hills. As before, meals are in the restaurant car or from your own supplies, and you can stock up on fruit and bread at longer platform stops.
On the train · Chita and the Amur region — A full day through Zabaykalsky and the Amur region, one of the least populated parts of the route, with taiga forest, rivers and small wooden villages. The train passes Chita and continues towards the Chinese border region. This is a good day to rest, write a travel diary and swap stories with fellow travellers.
Over the Amur at Khabarovsk · Arrive Vladivostok — The train crosses the long Amur river bridge at Khabarovsk and runs south to Vladivostok, 7 hours ahead of Moscow. On arrival, see the 9,288 km marker on the platform that marks the end of the Trans-Siberian line, then our representative drives you to your hotel. Enjoy a proper shower and a walk on the Sportivnaya embankment by the sea in the evening.
Vladivostok city tour · Departure — After breakfast and check-out, a short guided city tour of about 3 hours: the Eagle's Nest viewpoint over the Golden Horn Bay and its cable-stayed bridge, the Russky Bridge and the old submarine museum on the waterfront. Visa & entry
Indian passport holders can apply online for Russia's unified e-visa at the official site evisa.kdmid.ru. Since August 2025 it allows a single entry and a stay of up to 30 days, is valid for 120 days from issue, and costs about USD 50 (children under 6 free). A decision usually comes within 4 working days; we suggest applying 2–3 weeks before travel. Print the e-visa and carry medical insurance valid in Russia. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the visa's end date and have two blank pages. Hotels register your stay with the migration authorities; keep every registration slip. A visa-free scheme for Indian tour groups has been discussed by both governments but was not in force at the time of writing, so plan on the e-visa.
Good to know
Second-class compartments have 4 berths, and you may share with other travellers. Lower berths are easier for seniors; we request them but cannot guarantee them. A 2-berth first-class upgrade is available at extra cost.
Pack a small train bag: slippers, comfortable clothes, wet wipes, a mug, instant food, tea or coffee, a power bank and medicines. Some carriages have power points, but not every compartment.
Russian trains are alcohol-free, and smoking is not allowed on board. Showers are limited or paid on some carriages.
Indian Visa and Mastercard cards do not work in Russia. Carry enough US dollars or euros in cash for the whole trip; exchanging money in small Siberian towns is harder.
WhatsApp has been blocked on Russian networks since February 2026, and mobile signal is patchy across Siberia. Share the train number and dates with family before you leave.
Vegetarian options in the restaurant car are limited (soups, buckwheat, potatoes, salads, pancakes). Carry some ready-to-eat Indian meals, theplas and dry snacks.
Questions travellers ask
Is the train comfortable for 4 nights at a stretch?
It is clean and warm, with made-up berths, a carriage attendant and free hot water, but it is basic, with shared toilets and limited showers. Most travellers enjoy the slow pace. If you prefer privacy, upgrade to a 2-berth first-class compartment.
Can we get vegetarian food on the train?
The restaurant car has some vegetarian dishes, but the choice is limited. We suggest carrying ready-to-eat Indian meals, snacks and fruit, and buying fresh bread and fruit at platform stops.
Is this trip suitable for senior citizens?
It suits seniors who are healthy and can climb into a train and manage shared facilities. Ask us for lower berths. People who need daily medical attention should consider a shorter rail trip.
How do we pay for things in Russia?
Indian cards do not work, so carry US dollars or euros in cash and change them into roubles in Moscow. Indian rules allow up to USD 3,000 in foreign currency notes per trip.
Are flights included?
No. You fly into Moscow and home from Vladivostok, usually via Moscow. We can book both flights and give you a combined quote.
