Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Chiang Mai · Night Bazaar — Most flights from India reach Chiang Mai via Bangkok; the domestic flight from Bangkok takes about 1 hour 10 minutes. Our representative meets you at Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) and drives you to your hotel, about 15–20 minutes. Check-in is usually from 2:00 pm. In the evening, walk to the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar on Chang Klan Road, open every night, for handicrafts, silk, wood…
Doi Suthep and the old city temples — After breakfast, a guided half-day temple tour of about 4–5 hours. Drive up the mountain road to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, about 30–40 minutes from the city; you climb a staircase of about 300 steps lined with naga serpents, or take the small lift for a few baht. From the terrace there are views over the whole city on a clear day. Back in the old city, visit Wat Phra Singh and the ruined…
Ethical elephant sanctuary (half day) — Pickup from the hotel in the morning for an elephant sanctuary in the hills outside Chiang Mai, usually 1–1.5 hours each way. The visit lasts about 3–4 hours: an introduction to the elephants' history and care, preparing and feeding fruit and sugarcane, and a walk with the herd. Some sanctuaries also let visitors watch or join a river or mud bath; others have stopped bathing for the elephants'…
Free day · Optional White Temple or cooking class — The day is free, with no tour booked. Options at extra cost: a full-day trip to Chiang Rai, about 3 hours each way, for the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), the Blue Temple and the Golden Triangle viewpoint; a half-day Thai cooking class with vegetarian menus on request; or a day trip to Doi Inthanon, Thailand's highest peak, with its twin royal pagodas and waterfalls. If your stay includes a…

Good to know
Temple dress code: cover shoulders and knees, and remove footwear inside temple halls. A light scarf or shawl is useful.
December–January mornings and evenings can drop to about 15°C, so carry a light jacket. From about February to April, smoke from crop burning can cause haze; people with asthma should carry their medicines and masks.
At the sanctuary, wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, closed shoes or sandals with straps, insect repellent and sunscreen.
Chiang Mai has a few Indian restaurants and many vegetarian and vegan cafés, especially around the old city and Nimman Road.
The currency is the Thai baht (THB). Carry cash for night markets, the walking streets and tuk-tuks; Grab taxis work well in the city.
Questions travellers ask
Are there direct flights from India to Chiang Mai?
Usually not. Most travellers fly via Bangkok, then take a 1-hour 10-minute domestic flight. International and domestic flights are not included, but we can book them for you.
Do we ride the elephants?
No. This is an ethical sanctuary visit: you feed, walk with and watch the elephants. Riding is not offered.
Is this trip suitable for senior citizens?
Yes. The pace is relaxed. Doi Suthep has a lift as an alternative to the steps, and the sanctuary walk is on gentle ground. Tell us about any mobility issues and we will advise.
Will we get vegetarian food?
Yes. Hotel breakfasts have vegetarian options, and Chiang Mai has many vegetarian cafés and a few Indian restaurants. Tell us in advance for the sanctuary lunch.
Do we need a visa?
No. Indian tourists can stay visa-free for up to 30 days. Fill in the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card online within 72 hours before you land.
