Day-by-day itinerary
Arrive Dehradun · Mussoorie, Kempty Falls and Mall Road — Our driver meets you at Dehradun airport or railway station and drives you up to Mussoorie (about 35 km from the station, 1.5 hours). After check-in, drive about 15 km to Kempty Falls, then come back for the evening on Mall Road and Camel's Back Road. The Gun Hill ropeway near Mall Road is optional and paid locally. Please plan to reach Dehradun by about 11 am to have enough daylight.
Mussoorie to Jim Corbett · Garjia Devi temple — Leave Mussoorie early after breakfast and drive about 270 km to Ramnagar at the edge of Jim Corbett National Park, via Dehradun, Haridwar and Najibabad (7–8 hours with breaks). Lunch is on the way at your own cost. If you arrive before dark, stop at the Garjia Devi temple, built on a rock in the Kosi river about 14 km before the resort. Check in and rest.
Optional morning jeep safari · Corbett to Nainital — If you have booked one, go on a morning jeep safari (about 6–9:30 am) into one of the park zones, with a forest naturalist; a jeep takes up to 6 people, and permits must be booked in advance on the official Corbett site. After breakfast, drive about 65 km to Nainital (2 hours), stopping at the Corbett Museum in Kaladhungi on the way. In the afternoon, take a boat on Naini Lake (paid locally),…
Nainital lakes tour · Bhimtal, Naukuchiatal, Sattal, Kainchi Dham — After breakfast, set out on a lakes tour: Bhimtal with its island aquarium (about 22 km), Naukuchiatal, the nine-cornered lake, and the quiet, forest-lined Sattal. On the way back, stop at Kainchi Dham, the Neem Karoli Baba ashram, which is very crowded on weekends and closed to visitors at certain hours. In the late afternoon, if the weather is clear, take the ropeway up to Snow View Point…
Nainital to Kathgodam · Departure — After breakfast, check out and drive about 35 km down to Kathgodam railway station (1–1.5 hours), or about 70 km to Pantnagar airport (2 hours). Good to know
Corbett safari zones open on different dates: Jhirna and Dhela are usually open all year, Bijrani and Garjia from about mid-October to June, and Dhikala from about mid-November to mid-June. Permits sell out early, so tell us at booking if you want a safari. Book only through the official Corbett Tiger Reserve website or through us.
Day 2 is a long drive of 7–8 hours. Mussoorie and Nainital are at opposite ends of Uttarakhand, so this is the only way to see both in 5 days.
Nainital and Mussoorie get very busy on weekends and holidays, and traffic into Nainital can be slow. Vehicles may be stopped outside town in peak season, with shuttles running to Mall Road.
Evenings are cool all year (10–15°C in October; near freezing in January). Pack a jacket, and add a raincoat in June–September.
Vegetarian food is widely available, including South Indian dishes on the Mall Roads. Tell us if you need Jain food.
Questions travellers ask
Is the Corbett jeep safari included?
No. The safari is optional because permits are limited and must be booked in advance on the official site with every traveller's ID. We can book one for you and quote the jeep and permit cost for your date.
Will we see a tiger at Corbett?
Sightings are a matter of luck. You are likely to see deer, elephants, birds and perhaps crocodiles by the river; tigers are seen on some safaris but not most.
Can we start or end in Delhi?
Yes, at extra cost. Delhi to Mussoorie and Nainital to Delhi are each about 7–8 hours by road. Many guests take the train to Dehradun and back from Kathgodam instead.
Is this trip suitable for senior citizens and small children?
Yes. There is no trekking, and sightseeing is mostly by car with short walks. The one long drive on Day 2 has regular breaks.
Will there be snow?
Snowfall in Nainital and Mussoorie is occasional, usually in late December to February, and never guaranteed. For more certain snow, ask us about Auli or Himachal.
